Raymondo is a metal sculptor who works primarily with found metals. He scavenges Chevrolet cam-lifters, railroad spikes, nuts, bolts, rebar, chains, nails, plate steel, wrought iron fences, saw-blades, and angle iron in the urban litter and mechanical debris of Atlanta's city streets and construction sites. Raymondo collects, reorganizes, and reverses entropy - or "the ultimate state reached in the degradation of matter and energy of the universe," scattered chaos of urban, mechanized life - from the monsters we leave behind.
Some of Raymondo's whimsical and grotesque creatures are variations on the gothic sculptural genre of gargoyles, defined as "fabulous monsters of medieval architectural art, serving as water spouts and monstrous guardians to ward off spirits." His work has appeared in exhibitions and performances at Atlanta's 800 East Multidisciplinary Arts Center (where Raymondo is a founding member and long-time participant and performer), and in many other venues throughout the southeast. His Peace Torch creation received rave reviews from Olympic visitors from around the world. Some of his other works may be viewed below.
